Cairo, Ohio Leslie G. "Dusty" Best, age 86, died at 5:05 p.m., on Sunday, January 3, 2016, at Lima Manor, Lima, Ohio. He was born on July 21, 1929, in Morenci, Michigan, to Arlie and Lois (Lamb) Best, Sr.. They both preceded him in death. On January 20, 1967, he married Jean A. Shealy, and she resides in Cairo. He is survived by one son: Barry Best, of Lima; one daughter: Pam (Mike Newland) Steed of Lima; and three step daughters: Debbie (Tom) Hunt of Elida, Toni (Jerome) Anderson of Ishpeming, Michigan, and Becky (Ronnie) Newland of Lima; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; one brother: John Best of Cairo, and one sister in-law: Jean Best of Bluffton. He was preceded in death by two sons: Jodie Best and Dwight Best; two sisters: Phyllis Thomas and Caroline (Delbert) Harter and one brother: Ike Best. Mr. Best was a member of the Cairo United Methodist church. He retired from Superior Coach Corp., Lima and the Cairo Elevator. Dusty was an U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict and a receipient of the Purple Heart . He was a member of the Columbus Grove VFW, Post 9648 and the Columbus Grove American Legion, Post 516. He had been a member of the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department for over 60 years. Dusty enjoyed remote controlled air planes and stock car races at Allentown Speedway. He was an excellent worker and excelled at everything he did. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, Ohio. Wesley Buettner, Cairo Volunteer Fire Chief and Pastor Rich Rakay , will co-officate with burial to follow in the Cairo Eastside Cemetery. The combined Color Guard of the American Legion and VFW, Columbus Grove, and will conduct the military rites assisted by the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department, at the cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, and on Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
