George A Herron's Obituary
George A. Herron, 91, of Columbus Grove, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025. George was born May 27, 1934, in Columbus Grove, to the late John and Gwelda (Keller) Herron. On January 27, 1959, he married Katherine E. (Hawk) who survives.
He was a proud and patriotic veteran, who served honorably as a military police officer and later earned his pilot license and seaplane license, logging thousands of hours in the sky. He was a skilled marksman, breaking multiple 300 straight scores in trapshooting competitions. He was also a lifetime Mason for Rufus Putnam Lodge No. 364, Columbus Grove and Shriners. In retirement he enjoyed many years in Florida, surrounded by his beloved dogs, Pete and Ollie. On his 90th birthday he celebrated by skydiving. George's hobbies included daily trips to Walmart and working on puzzles. Sunday mornings were filled with coffee, his wife's homemade pies and family around the table. He lived a full life marked by service, passion, humor and deep love for family and friends.
He is also survived by his sons, Greg (Ruth) Herron and Dean (Julie) Herron; 6 grandchildren, Melissa (Ryan) Selhorst, Mindy (Bryan) Troyer, Michele Westerman, Janell Herron, Matthew Herron and Amber Herron; 8 great-grandchildren, and one brother, John Herron. He is preceded in death by his half-brother, Jack Herron.
Funeral services are at 11 am Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Hartman-Rousculp Funeral Home, 10879 St. Rt. 12, Columbus Grove, with visitation one hour prior (10 to 11 am). Visitation is also on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial at Rockport Cemetery, Columbus Grove with military honors.
