Columbus Grove, Ohio Alvin "Dick" Schroeder, age 84, died at 10:28 a.m., on Monday, April 18, 2016, at his home near Columbus Grove, Ohio. He was born on November 30, 1931, in Columbus Grove, to John and Clementina (Hanneman) Schroeder. They both preceded him in death. On August 11, 1954, he married Dolores Niese, and she survives in Columbus Grove. He is also survived by three sons: William (Tammy) Schroeder, Jeffrey (Louann) Schroeder and Michael (Wendy) Schroeder all of Columbus Grove; five daughters: Mary Jo (Mark) Inkrot of Hamilton, Nancy (Jeff) Gertsen of Columbus Grove, Jane (James) Dunlap of Bluffton, Sandra (Donald) Roebke of Columbus Grove and Krisann (Martin) Haselman of Leipsic; 32 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one sister: Marguerite Sabastian of Liverpool, NY; and three sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Schroeder and Mary Ida Schroeder both of Columbus Grove and Ruth Schroeder of Onstead, Michigan. Dick was preceded in death by one grandson: Daniel Dunlap; six brothers: Urban (Rosemary) Schroeder, Leo (Norma) Schroeder, Alphonse (Irene) Schroeder, John, Louis and Harold Schroeder; three sisters: Rita Mae Schroeder, Sister Mary Ann C.P.P.S. and Helen (James) Clark. Mr. Schroeder was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, class of 1949. He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove and the K of C. Dick was a life long farmer and had worked for John Schroeder Plastering. He had served as a Putnam County Commissioner for 12 years, a Pleasant Township Trustee for 3 terms, and a4-H advisor for 20 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Putnam County Historic Society and the Bowers Slusser American Legion, Post 516, VFW Post 9648 , Fraternal Order of Eagles, Arie 2772 all of Columbus Grove. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove, with Rev. Tom Extejt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, where Military Rites will be conducted by the combined Color Guard of the American Legion and VFW Columbus Grove Posts. Friends may call on Wednesday and Thursday from 2:00-8:00 p.m., at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. K of C will lead the Rosary Service on Thursday evening at the close of visitation.
