COLUMBUS GROVE
William J. Hoffman, 89, died at 9 p.m. May 23, 2013, at The Meadows of Ottawa-Glandorf in Ottawa.
He was born March 16, 1924, in Columbus Grove to Fred A. and Mary T. Knott Hoffman, who preceded him in death. On June 25, 1949, he married Ethel M. Martin, who died in October 1972.
Mr. Hoffman was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2234, Ottawa. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. Family was important to him, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, James (LaDonna) Hoffman, of Ottawa; four daughters, Diane (Ed) Inkrott, of Glandorf, and Linda (Dan) Verhoff, Judy (Steven) Hermiller and Janice (Duane) Meyer, all of Ottawa; a sister, Helen Schroeder, of Fort Jennings; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dolly Blankemeyer, of Columbus Grove; and three brothers-in-law, Bob Gasperetti, of Lima, Don Schroeder, of Leipsic, and Jack Brookman, of Lima.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Hermiller and Mary Jane Gasperetti; and a brother, Leonard Hoffman.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. Father Tom Extejt will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, where a rosary service will be held at 8 p.m.
