COLUMBUS GROVE — Wilfred F. Niese died at 11:03 AM April 13, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Born December 1, 1916, in Miller City, Ohio, to the late Bernard and Anna (Siebeneck) Niese. On June 4, 1947, he married Marie Alt who preceded him in death in 1994. He was a WW II veteran serving in the U. S. Army. He retired from Paulding-Putnam Electrical Operative, after 34 years of service. Memberships included St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove, and the Knights of Columbus, as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9648 and the American Legion Post 516, also of Columbus Grove. Willy’s favorite past time was fishing on Stoney Lake, Canada, and woodworking in his shop.
Survivors include two sons, Eugene (Shirene) Niese, Columbus Grove, and Michael (Judy) Niese, Glandorf; a sister, Alfreda (Paul) Schroeder, Glandorf; and brother, Arnold Niese, Miller City. Eight grandchildren, Carrie Niese, Lori (Andrew) Duguid, Matthew (Nikki) Niese, Kristine Niese, Dan (Lindsay) Niese, Nathan (Sarah) Niese, Jennifer (Tony) Roberts, and Julie Niese. Six Great Grandchildren, Tate Niese, Connor and Gabriella Duguid, Ben and Myles Niese, and Jackson Schumaker.
Additional survivors include brothers-in-law: Eddy Alt, Ottawa, James (Ursula) Alt, Bluffton, Harold (Phyllis) Alt, Shelby, William Alt, Columbus Grove, Frank (Vera) Alt, Tempe, AZ, and Arthur (Ruth) Alt, Jr., Pandora. Sisters- in-law: Mary Alice Niese, Miller City, and Teresa Shinabery, Columbus Grove.
He was preceded in death by brothers Urban, Edmund, Hugo and Amos Niese, and sisters Colletta Bockrath, Mary Verhoff, and Leona Alt.
Friends may call from 2:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, with a Rosary service following at 8:00 PM, by the K of C. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove, with Father Tom Extejt officiating and Deacon Tom Niese assisting. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, with military services by the VFW-American Legion Color guard. Memorials may be made to the St. Anthony School Endowment Fund.
