Walter shared his memories of playing baseball with the Gremlins of Columbus Grove ,that my Grandfather C.S. Miller managed. The story of my Grandfather threatening to make him pay for the bats that he was good, and frequent, at breaking brought a smile and chuckle to both of us. He was a glorious and lovable story teller. Walter was going be of a kind. I loved how he would, on the Sundays we were having a potluck dinner after church, have a fork in his suit coat pocket where I could see it, his way of saying keep the sermon short theres food waiting! He always brought the most delicious tray of cookies to every function. He was a very supportive elder at my first pastorate and I will NEVER forget the times we talked and the wisdom he shared with me. I will miss my friend and Im sure he will show me around when I see him again.

I enjoyed working with Walt (and his handlebar mustache) when he was a Monroe township trustee and when I was in charge of the road program at the county engineer's office. Walt was a like-able and honorable man. He will be missed. Tim Piper
