Columbus Grove, Ohio Thomas O. Reed, 84, died at 8:50 pm, Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at his daughter's home near Columbus Grove, surrounded by his family. He was born in Columbus Grove, October 30, 1932, to Ralph and Nina (Rothman) Reed. On August 20, 1952, he married his best friend, Dortha L. Epley. She preceded him in death, January 8, 2017. Survivors include four sons: Alan Reed of Defiance, Steve (Rhonda) Reed and Tommy Reed both of Columbus Grove, and Jason (Becky) Boughan of Elida; three daughters: Diane (Gary) Benroth, Cheri (Carl) Benroth and Barb (Chris) Maag all of Columbus Grove; 16 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren with two on the way; two brothers: Jack Reed of Columbus Grove and Duanne (Lena) Reed of Shawnee; two sisters: Betty Graham of Lima and Marilyn (Carl) Quinn of Cincinnati and one brother in-law: Richard Lee (Jean) Epley of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by two brothers in-law: Robert Graham and Bobby Epley and two sisters in-law: Leona Sue Mandich and Louise (George) Brindza. Mr. Reed attended Columbus Grove High School. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. When he returned from service, he worked Kelley's Bar, formerly in Columbus Grove. Tom was a supervisor with Scot Lad Foods, which became Roundy's, from which he retired. He was a member of the Columbus Grove Christian Church and of the Bowers Slusser American Legion, Post 516, Columbus Grove. He was a Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed going to the grandchildren's school and sporting events. Tom was an excellent baseball and softball player, and he was an avid bowler, having several 300 games. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Services will begin at 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastors Geoff Eubank and Dave Thompson will co- officiate. Burial will follow in Truro Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion and VFW Color Guard. Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, March 31, 2017, and on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service at Hartman Sons Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Columbus Grove Christian Church or Putnam County Hospice. Online condolences may be expressed at hartmansonsfuneralhome.com.
