Sarah Stewart Obituary
COLUMBUS GROVE — Sarah J. Stewart, 55, died June 2, 2013, at 9:57 p.m., surrounded by her family, after a courageous eight and a half year battle with melanoma.
She was born June 28, 1957, to the late Camillus J. and Eileen M. Moser Knott. On June 13, 1987, she married Joseph P. Stewart, who survives in Columbus Grove.
Sarah was a 1975 graduate of Columbus Grove High School. She went on to further her education with a bachelor’s degree in education from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree in education from Wright State University. Throughout college, Sarah worked as one of the first employees at the Red Pig Inn. Upon graduation, she taught at St. Anthony School, Columbus Grove. Sarah spent the majority of her career teaching fourth grade at Kalida Elementary School. Her true passion was teaching and she loved working with and helping children succeed. She retired from teaching in 2012 after 31 years. Her children were her pride and joy. She enjoyed being with friends and family. Her laughter and smile would light up the room.
Sarah was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove, and served on the Altar Rosary Society. She also had memberships in the Kalida Education Association and the Ohio Education Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Ashley (Brad) Ellerbrock, of Ottawa; a son, Josiah Stewart, of Columbus Grove; a stepson, Joshua (Michele) Stewart, of Lima; two brothers, Tim (Sue) Knott, of Bluffton, and Mark Knott, of Ottawa; and three stepgrandchildren, Jayton, Joshua Joseph, and Ryder Stewart.
Her brother, Edward Knott, preceded her in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. The Rev. Tom Extejt will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, where the St. Anthony Altar Rosary Society will hold a rosary service at 8 p.m.
