ROGER MAYBERRY Obituary
DATELINE: Columbus Grove, Ohio Roger E. Mayberry, 85 of rural Columbus Grove, died at 10:29pm. Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Lima Memorial Hospital. The son of Glen L. and Luella (Bowers) Mayberry, was born in Lima on July 15, 1927 On March 15, 1947 he married his neighbor and childhood sweetheart, Helen L. Kidd, and she died on January 27, 1996. Roger is survived by two daughters Beverly K. Barber, Fostoria and Janet L. (Robert) Maag, Columbus Grove. The light of his life were his grandchildren Jason (Katie) Maag of Rocky Mount, Va., and Joni (fiancée Ryan Chepla) Maag of Shaker Heights, OH. He is also survived by a sister Rose Leigh Baier of Bellefontaine, OH. He attended Columbus Grove Public Schools and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. during WWII. He proudly served on the original crew of the U.S.S. Macon and the U.S.S. John Houston. Roger was a soft-hearted jovial man and greeted all he met with a smile and left them feeling better when they parted. He was also a loving family man whose willingness to go the extra mile provided many hours of fun and lasting memories for family and friends alike. He loved to travel and anything to do with draft horses. Roger worked as a custodian and bus driver at Columbus Grove Public Schools. In 1992 he retired from Nickles Bakery, Lima after 28 years as semi-driver. He had also been a life-time farmer living most of his life on the family farm near Rockport, Ohio. Roger was a member of Columbus Grove American Legion Bowers-Slusser Post #516. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00- and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday December 16, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Earl Shaffer officiating. Burial will be at Campbell Cemetery on Mayberry Road, Columbus Grove.
