Richard Dackin Obituary
Richard “Dick” D. Dackin passed away peacefully on August 29, 2022 at 86 years old at Kessler Estates in Lima, Ohio.
Richard was born on November 28, 1935 in Kalida, Ohio to Russell E. and Velma (Carey) Dackin. He was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, and married Jeannine Kae (Bowers) Dackin on November 3, 1956. They were married for nearly 50 years before her passing on May 10, 2016.
Richard was a hard-working man who was dedicated to his family and his community. He owned Bowers Home Improvement and enjoyed working with his hands to build everything from furniture to houses, even after his retirement. He served the Village of Cairo as a member of the village council, as mayor, and as a volunteer firefighter, and was a decades-long member of Cairo United Methodist Church. Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman, and often traveled across the country and even to Canada on hunting trips with his friends.
Richard was the most proud of his three sons, his eleven granddaughters, and several great-grandchildren. Richard loved to spend time with his family and host large family gatherings, whether it was at Christmas at his home or on their annual beach vacations. He loved to watch his sons, and later his granddaughters, play high school and collegiate sports, and was a constant presence in the stands at Bath Local Schools athletic events.
Richard is survived by sons Steve (Susan) Dackin of Columbus, Ohio and Rich (Sandra) Dackin, of Lima, Ohio; daughter-in law Sandy Dackin; eleven granddaughters: Jessica Dackin, Erika (Zach) Prouty, Alex (Keith) Temple, Rachel (Jacob) Child, Taylor Dackin, Madison Dackin, Katie (Nick) Schroeder, Ellie (Taren) Sullivan, Bailey Dackin, Tori Dackin, and Abbie Dackin; three great-granddaughters: Sophia Child, Frankie Temple, and Caroline Prouty; one great-grandson Henry Child; and his brother Gary Dackin of Olathe, KS.
He was preceded in death by son Jeffrey L. Dackin; an infant daughter; parents Russell and Velma (Carey) Dackin; sisters Ruth (Jack) Steele, Marcile (Paul) Siebeneck, Marguerite Dackin, Helen (George) Stephens, Dorothy (Warren) Eastman, Martha (Richard) Kohler; and sister-in-law Karen Dackin.
Services will begin at 11:00 am on Friday, September 2, 2022, at the Hartman Sons Funeral Home. Pastor Thomas Holmes will officiate, with burial to follow in the Cairo Eastside Cemetery.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 1 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cairo United Methodist Church or the Cairo Fire Department.
