Cairo, Ohio Nancy A. Shafer, age 74, died at 3:16 p.m., on May 19, 2016 at Lima Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 21, 1942, in Columbus Grove, to Nolan H. and Leah A. (Williams) Barto. They both preceded her in death. On July 2, 1960, she married Richard "Dick" Shafer, who survives near Cairo, Ohio. Nancy is survived by one son: Richard "Rick" Shafer of Cairo; two daughters: Dawn Shafer and Lori (Dave) Brown, both of Columbus Grove; five grandchildren: Matt (Lori) Parker, Lee (Jennifer) Parker, Alex Walker, Amy (Brian) Schroeder and Emma Brown; eight great grandchildren: Austin and Alexis Parker; Caden and Chase Parker; Jacksen, Gavin, Ava and Mia Schroeder; one brother: Gary (Sue) Barto of Columbus Grove; three sisters: Betty (Clifford) Metzger, Dorothy "Dot" (John) Humphreys and Jane (Dale) Edwards all of Columbus Grove; brother in-law Clyde Core of Columbus Grove; sister in-law: Judy Schroeder of Columbus Grove and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by one great grandson: Nolan Parker; one brother: Samuel Barto; two sisters: Joyce Core and Ruth (Paul) Schumacher. Mrs. Shafer was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, class of 1960. She had worked at and retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. of Lima. Nancy was also a partner in and worked at Shafer's Meat Market, Lima. She was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church and the Women's Society of the Church. She was a member of the "Round Table" at Biggie's Restaurant in Cairo. Nancy enjoyed family gatherings and get togethers with former classmates. Her greatest pleasure was spoiling her grandkids. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Ruth Ann Scoby will officiate with burial to follow in Altstaetter Cemetery, Columbus Grove. Friends may call on Tuesday, 2:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home.
