Columbus GroveMerlin "Butch" Sargent, 77, died at 8:15 a.m. March 9, 2011, at Bridge Home Health & Hospice, Findlay.He was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Columbus Grove to Frank and Iva Mae Jones Sargent, who preceded him in death. On March 15, 1953, he married Helen L. Jones, who died March 14, 2003.Mr. Sargent was a 1952 graduate of Columbus Grove High School. He was a member of Columbus Grove Christian Church. He and his wife were co-owners of Car-E-It, Ottawa, and Skooters Bar & Grill, Kalida, and former owner and operators of Meadowbrook Lanes Bowling Alley, Pandora. He had been a member of Rufus Putnam Lodge 364 Free & Accepted Masons, Columbus Grove, for more than 50 years, and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles.Survivors include four sons, Roy (Robin) Sargent, of Columbus Grove, Dale (Shayna) Sargent, of Cairo, Joe (Sylvia) Sargent, of Columbus Grove, and John (Nikki) Sargent, of Ottawa; a sister, Betty Schaublin, of Columbus Grove; a brother-in-law, Charles "Bud" (Dottie) Jones, of Columbus Grove; and 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Zimmerly and two brothers, Harold and Louis Altstaetter.Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Dave Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Osborn Cemetery, Columbus Grove.Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, OH 45840.
