COLUMBUS GROVE — Mary Jean Kohls, 77, died at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 30, 2013, at Meadows of Kalida.
She was born June 6, 1936, in Columbus Grove to Allan and Ethel L. Helpling Kissell. Her father preceded her in death. Her mother survives in Columbus Grove. On July 15, 1959, she married Robert F. “Bob” Kohls, who died Nov. 23, 2012.
Mrs. Kohls was a graduate of Columbus Grove Class of 1954. She had attended Bluffton College, after which she taught and volunteered at both St. Anthony and Columbus Grove schools. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary, and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She enjoyed bowling, reading, playing cards, and working puzzles. She had loved spending time with her six granddaughters.
She is survived by three sons, Philip R. (Patty) Kohls, of St. Paul, Minn., Timothy L. (Colleen) Kohls, of Arlington, Texas, and Michael L. (Robyn) Kohls, of Columbus Grove; a daughter, Nancy Ann (Michael) Tibbetts, of Las Vegas; six granddaughters, Sarah, Abby, Katie, Samantha, Rachel, and Megan Kohls; four brothers, Jack (Janice) Kissell, Bob (Shirley) Kissell, and Pat Kissell, all of Columbus Grove, and Tom (Helen) Kissell, of Blue Springs, Mo.; and three sisters: Peggy (Milton) Zimmerly, Joy (Phil) Stechschulte, all of Columbus Grove, and Judy (Clair “Butch”) Leffler, of Lima.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Martin and Nicholas Kohls.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. The Rev. Tom Extejt will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Columbus Grove.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, with a special prayer service at 8 p.m.
