COLUMBUS GROVE — Lillian G. McElroy, 85, died at 2:12 p.m. Oct. 26, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. She was born Aug. 30, 1927, in Columbus Grove to Lloyd B. and Marguerite Adrian Gettman. On May 18, 1952, she married Ross McElroy, who preceded her in death. Mrs. McElroy was a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College. She started her teaching career in Columbus Grove schools. For more than 35 years, she enjoyed teaching biology and helping students as the guidance counselor in the Mariemont City Schools. She continued motivating students as an academic adviser at Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati. As an avid pet lover, she requested memorial contributions be sent to Putnam Pet Pals. Survivors include a brother, Thomas (Jane) Gettman, of Columbus Grove; and three nieces, a nephew, five great-nieces, a great-nephew. She was preceded in death by a brother, John C. Gettman. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam Pet Pals, P.O. Box 143, Glandorf, OH 45848.
