COLUMBUS GROVE — ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. Lelia Virginia Miller McDowell, 94, died Oct. 27, 2012, at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn. She was born March 19, 1918, near Cairo to Perry I. and Elsie Altstaetter Miller, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 6, 1938, she married Robert L. McDowell, who died Feb. 26, 1996. Mrs. McDowell was a life member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Cairo. In 2000, she moved, with family, to the Elizabethton, Tenn., area. She was a farm wife and retired from Sear & Roebuck Co. She attended First Baptist Church, Elizabethton, Tenn., since 2000. She enjoyed teaching the children at Pleasant View, singing in the choir, square dancing, games with friends and family, and camping and traveling, but most of all she enjoyed her family. She has now passed on to be with the Lord. Survivors include a son, Gerald “Jerry” (Ruby) McDowell; two grandchildren, Robert Jeffrey (Starli) McDowell and Beth (Kevin) Hall; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Bailey, who she spent a lot of time with; a sister-in-law, Gloria Baker Miller Byerly; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Arthur Miller. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Burial will be in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove, Pastor Paul E. Myers will be officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View Church of the Brethren carpet fund.
