Celina Kenneth O. Schmersal, 68, formerly of Lima, died at 6:50 p.m. Sept. 10, 2011, at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus. He was born June 4, 1943, in Columbus Grove, to Mark A. and Louise A. Lammers Schmersal, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 8, 1964, he married Gretchen Tripplehorn, who survives in Celina. Mr. Schmersal was a 1961 graduate of Columbus Grove High School and later received an associate degree from Hobart Institute of Welding, Piqua. He worked at General Dynamics, Lima, and spent two years in Cairo, Egypt. Ken was currently employed at Crown Equipment, Celina. He was a member of the American Welding Society. He and his wife attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina. Ken's hobbies included following the Cleveland Browns, Indians and OSU Buckeyes, working on automobiles, gardening, photography and hunting. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors also include two sons, David Alan Schmersal, of Columbus, and Michael Paul Schmersal, of Fishers, IN; two daughters, Karin Sue (William) Lampkin, of Weston, WI, and Cynthia Marie Schmersal, of Kansas City, MO; a brother, Joseph F. (Rachel) Schmersal, of Columbus Grove; three sisters, Sister Mary Lou Schmersal and Teresa D. (Dr. LeRoy) Schroeder, both of Findlay, and Barbara J. (Vincent) Lammers, of Janesville, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Deborah K. Schmersal, of Columbus Grove; and six grandchildren, Bryan Lampkin, Adam Lampkin, Nathan Lampkin, Elizabeth Lampkin, Noah Schmersal and Ava Schmersal. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory M. Schmersal, and a grandson, Daniel Lampkin. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. Father Thomas Extejt will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, where a Scripture service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Chapter of the American Red Cross or the charity of the donor's choice.
