Karl Salisbury Obituary
COLUMBUS GROVE— Karl D. Salisbury, 63, died at 6:47 p.m. Aug. 31, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 8, 1949, in Lima to Kermit G and Elfrieda Alexander Salisbury, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 24, 1969, he married Susan K. Perry, who survives in Columbus Grove.
Mr. Salisbury graduated from Columbus Grove High School, Class of 1967. As a young man, he had worked at the former Village Pantry Restaurant in Vaughnsville, and the Westinghouse Corp., formerly of Lima. He then served in the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, he was severely wounded. This precipitated his return to the United States, followed by his honorary discharge and a Purple Heart. The former GTE Sylvania Corp. of Ottawa (now the Philips Co.) was his next employer, where he worked 31 years, retiring when the plant closed the Ottawa location. He had attended the former United Church of Christ in Columbus Grove. He was interested in the life and death of President John F. Kennedy, and often shared his thoughts through letters in the local newspaper. Other interests and hobbies included his curiosity about UFOs, riding his American flag-adorned Harley-Davidson, and constructing models using primarily cardboard and glue. These included anything and everything that he found to be of interest, ranging from an Amish horse-drawn hearse to a helicopter.
Survivors also include three sons, Dennis (Jennifer) Salisbury, of Columbus Grove, Steve (Jessica) Salisbury, of Findlay, and Scott Salisbury, of Pandora; three brothers, Curt (Carol) Salisbury, and Orville (Diane) Salisbury, both of California, and Ray (Goldie) Salisbury, of Missouri; and six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jacob, Lydia, Lillian, Chloe and Quincy.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Susanne L. Salisbury.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Dave Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Vaughnsville Cemetery. Military rites will be by the American Legion-Veterans of Foreign Wars combined Columbus Grove Color Guard.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam Pet Pals, PO Box 143, Glandorf, OH 45848.
