Junior George Wyant's Obituary
Junior George Wyant"George"September 12, 1929 - July 29, 2025
Junior George Wyant, affectionately known as George, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on July 29, 2025, at The Meadows of Ottawa. He was lovingly surrounded by his son Mike and daughter-in-law Carla and was ushered into eternal rest through prayer and the comforting presence of family.
Born on September 12, 1929, in Leipsic, Ohio, George lived a full and faithful life marked by deep devotion to family, steadfast work ethic, and humble character.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, George served his country honorably from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War, attached to Fighter Squadron 82, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant, and receiving the Defense Service Ribbon.
After his military service, George worked for 20 years as a tool and die maker at Dana Corporation and later dedicated himself to farming, where he especially enjoyed raising poultry. His hands were never idle, and his heart was always full.
George was a man of quiet wisdom and strong values-a man of great character-and was known by all as a great father, grandfather, and friend. He was a devoted husband to his beloved Evelyn, with whom he shared countless adventures, vacations, and winters in Texas. Their life together began with a memorable story: George was snowbound in a freak April storm just before their May 1st wedding -- a story retold with laughter and love over the years.
He found joy in life's simple pleasures: golfing, vacationing with Evelyn and family, wintering in Texas, and playing endless Euchre tournaments with his beloved family. His gentle catchphrase, "That's not necessary," will echo in the hearts of those who knew him best.
George is survived by his loving children, Michael (Carla) Wyant and Susan Utrup; his cherished grandchildren, Joshua (Kara) Wyant, Tiffany (Brandon) Clem, Jeremy (Kelly) Wyant, Jessica Utrup, Jim Utrup, Jennifer Utrup, and Julie (Tyler) Snyder; and his adored great-grandchildren, Ryker, Leyton, Isabella, Aaron, Christiana, Haley, Jackson, Charles, Robin, and Remington George.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn; his sons Gregory and Jeffrey Wyant; his brothers Gilbert, Gordon, and Don Wyant; and his sisters Hildegarde (Amos) Unterbrink, Ardella (Harold) Mershman, Virginia (Leroy) Selhorst, Cleopha (Forrest) Gambrel, and Imogene (Herman) Kahle.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 3, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. atHartman-Rousculp Community Funeral Home Columbus Grove, OH. Additional visitation Monday, August 4, at 10:30 a.m., with burial service to follow at Saint Anthony of Padua Cemetery at 11:00 a.m with military honors.
In honoring George's life, we remember a man who loved deeply, gave generously, and lived humbly. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished.
