Columbus Grove, Ohio John Jay Riggenbach, 71, died Friday, October 7, 2016, at his home near Columbus Grove. He was born October 1, 1945, in Bluffton, Ohio, to John J. and Eula (Barkimer) Riggenbach, both of whom preceded him in death. His wife, Janet Marie Craft, Columbus Grove, survives him. They were married in 1970. Other surviving family include daughter Julie Riggenbach, Elida, Ohio, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and two aunts, Lois Van Brunt and Alice Blockberger, of Columbus Grove. His son, Brian Riggenbach, preceded John in death. John was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, class of 1963. He joined the United States Army in1967, but the untimely death of his father, two years later, brought John home to manage the family farm and care for his mother. In addition to farming, he worked for Goodyear Tire, St. Marys, and later he worked at the Columbus Grove Grain Elevator. The last job John held was with the Ohio Department of Correction, from which he was retired. He was also active as a Special Deputy with Putnam County, was an auxiliary officer for the village of Columbus Grove, and had been a patrolman with American Township. He was a life member of the NRA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Friends and family may call on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Military rites will be presented by the combined Color Guard of the Columbus Grove American Legion and VFW Posts. Memorial contributions may be made to the Putnam County Sherriff K-9 Fund. On line condolences may be expressed at hartmansonsfuneralhome.com
