COLUMBUS GROVE — John H. Krontz Jr., 82, died at 2:05 a.m. Aug. 26, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 14, 1930, in Columbus Grove to John H. Sr. and Anna A. Merschma Krontz, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 22, 1951, he married LaDean Betts, who survives in Columbus Grove
Mr. Krontz had worked picking up milk from local farmers for the former Hitchcock Dairy, Columbus Grove, after which he drove truck for Kissell Brothers Poultry Co., also of Columbus Grove. He retired after more than 30 years of service as a linesman for the former AC & Y Railroad, now the Norfolk & Southern Railroad. He enjoyed fishing and people watching.
Survivors include four sons, Jerry (Alice) Krontz, of Columbus Grove, Gerald (Cherylanne) Krontz, of Cloverdale, Franklin (Barb) Krontz, of Lima, and Donnie (Janelle) Krontz, of Columbus Grove; two daughters, Loretta (Oscar) Vogt, of Columbus Grove, and Beverly (Phillip) Iiams, of Columbus Grove; two brothers, Jesse Krontz, of Bellefontaine, and Charles “Ted” (Jane) Krontz, of Mabelvale, Ark.; five sisters, Elizabeth Wells, of Ottawa, Rosemary Monroe, of Florida, Dorotha (Ronald) Jaynes, of Wisconsin, Clara (Larry) Rayburn, of Columbus Grove, and Wilma Schreiber, of Columbus Grove; a sister-in-law, Agnes Krontz, of Columbus Grove; and 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Krontz and Bonnie Hawk; a brother, James Krontz; a granddaughter, Barbara “Bobbie” Krontz; a grandson, Joseph Krontz; a brother-in-law, Martin Monroe; and a sister-in-law, Juanita Krontz.
Services will begin at noon Thursday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Mark Walls will officiate. Burial will be in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.
