Jerry A. Basinger, 88, died Monday, October 11, 2021, at Lima Convalescent Home, Lima, Ohio. He was born on March 30, 1933, in Rimer, to Norman and Gladys (Schindler) Basinger. They both preceded him in death.
On July 15, 1960, he married Hattie J. Auchmuty. She survives near Vaughnsville.
Jerry is survived by his son, Rick (Karen) Basinger; two daughters, Laurie Nicklaus and Linda (Jim) Slanina; and six grandchildren, Jessica Basinger, Tiffany Basinger, Joey Basinger, Jordan Basinger, Megan Nicklaus and Madison Nicklaus.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Kathleen Basinger, Pat (Dolly) Basinger and Noel (Dorothy) Basinger.
Jerry attended Vaughnsville High School. He had worked at Phillips, formerly of Ottawa, after which he enlisted in the United States Army. Jerry was a lifelong farmer, was a Putnam County Fair Board Director for 25 years, a lifelong member of the Farmers Union, he served 28 years, as a Sugar Creek Township Trustee and was a member of the Columbus Grove VFW Post 9648. He enjoyed coaching kid’s softball and baseball. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Boston Celtics Fan. Jerry was always in the Front Row when attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Jim Klausing will officiate.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service on Saturday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home.
