James Klinger Obituary
COLUMBUS GROVE — James Eugene Klinger, 77, died at 10:25 p.m. Sept. 1, 2013, at Putnam Heritage, Ottawa.
He was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Ottawa to Owen S. and Kathryn L. Carpenter Klinger, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Klinger was a 1956 graduate of Ottawa schools. He retired from Philips ECG, Ottawa, after 40 years. He was an Army veteran, stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was an active and very accomplished trapshooter and loved boating and fishing for walleye on Lake Erie and Rice Lake in Canada. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Amateur Trap Shooting Association. He loved to watch old Westerns on television. He was an avid fan of Columbus Grove football and The Ohio State University Buckeye sports. He had several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and who he spoiled greatly. He’ll be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include two sisters, Shirley Shartzer, of Ottawa, and Karen (the Rev. Gary) Dackin, of Olathe, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bill Shartzer.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Bill Patterson will officiate. Burial will be in Harman Cemetery, Gilboa, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9648 and American Legion Post 516.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
