Jack Callahan Obituary
Columbus Grove, Ohio Jack C. Callahan, 75, died at 7:15 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio. Jack was born July 23, 1939 in Lima to the late C. Lloyd and Frances L. (Gettman) Callahan. On May 16, 1970, he married Erma Boedicker, who survives in Columbus Grove. Mr. Callahan was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, class of 1957. He was a standout basketball and baseball player at Columbus Grove High School, where in his senior year, he scored 49 points in basketball, a school record which still stands today. He continued to play softball until he was in his late 40's, for various area teams. Every year since 1972, Erma and Jack would travel to see the World Series Games. They continued thru out their lives to attend each and every series, missing only one year due to the baseball lockout in 1994. They also attended the MLB All Star week for the past 15 years. An avid Ohio State Fan, he had always attended all of their post season Bowl games. Traveling to these events, was a wonderful time enjoyed by the entire family. He also attended the Ohio High School State Basketball Championship games for more than 50 years. He had worked for the Lima Engine Plant, Ford Motor Company, from 1959 until his retirement in 1997. Jack was a member of the Elks, Lodge #54, Lima. Jack loved his two daughters and eight grandchildren. He and Erma made it a point to attend and photograph or video any and all school, sporting, or social activity that they participated in. Jack is survived by his two daughters: Jill (Don) Duling, Columbus Grove, and Bonnie (Troy) McCluer, Columbus Grove; eight grandchildren: Kelsey, Dustin, Keri, Sydney, Amber, Macy, Carlee and Logan; and a brother: Terry (Barb) Callahan, Columbus Grove. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Hartman Sons Funeral. Pastor Rich Rakay will officiate. Burial will follow in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove. Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions maybe made to the Columbus Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
