Pandora, Ohio formerly of Bluffton, Indiana Howard A. Hawkins, 92, died at 7:25 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. He was born April 13, 1925, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to John Augusta and Monema Eulala (Fleming) Hawkins. They both preceded him in death. On July 17, 1948, he married Gladys Jean Castor, who preceded him in death, August 29, 2012. Howard is survived by one son, John R. (Laura) Hawkins of Millbury, MA; one daughter, Rebecca J. (Martin) Diller of Pandora, Ohio; five grandchildren, Joseph (Sheree) Diller, Juli (Justin) Shank, Jordan (Amy) Diller, Kelsey (Nathan) Lee and Sarah (Antonio) Limon; and 14 great grandchildren, Niko, Mila, Rocco and Willa Diller; Barrett, Gatlin Shank; Reece Diller; Siarrah, Erica, Nikoma, Fausto, Miguel, John and Julian Limon. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Richard Hawkins; and two sisters, Mable Fuelling and June Perry. Howard was a graduate of Hoagland High School, Indiana, class of 1943. He was a graduate of Ft. Bible College, class of 1960 and received his Masters in Education, from Indiana University in 1964. He was a Air Force veteran, serving during WWII. Howard was a charter member of Hope Missionary Church, starting the church in their home in 1965, where they continued to grow for the next year until they moved into the Church that the congregation built, in 1966. He retired from Bluffton Harrison Schools, Indiana, in 1987. He had taught at Aboite Elementary, Ft. Wayne, and spent the rest of his teaching career, teaching 6th grade at Eastside Elementary, during the 28 years of teaching. Howard was a member of the Bluffton Teachers Association, Indiana Teachers Association and Wells County Gideon's. Services will begin at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, April 9, 2018, at Pandora Missionary Church. Pastor Matt Steiner will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon's Society and Pandora Missionary Church. Online condolences may be expressed at hartmansonsfuneralhome.com.
