Gordon Best Obituary
Vaughnsville, Ohio Gordon Dewey Best, 89, died on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the Meadows of Kalida, Ohio. He was born March 26, 1928, in Vaughnsville, Ohio to the late Alfred Dewey and Edith (Horner) Best. He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Doris (Blockberger), his brother Alfred, sister Norma Swan, and two step brothers, Bill and John Best. He is survived by his brother Ronald of The Villages in Florida, his daughters Angela Best of Holland, Ohio and Linda Gengenbacher of Bozeman, Montana. Gordon is also survived by his special friend Monetta Lloyd of Gomer, Ohio. He was blessed to have four grandchildren, Tony (Christina) and Alex Pizza, Derek (Lacee) and Amanda Gengenbacher, and three great grandchildren, Nickolas, Adeline and Deklan Gengenbacher. Gordon's relatives were among the original settlers in Putnam County and helped to drain the Black Swamp. His lineage dated back to the Revolutionary War times, and he was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution. "Gordie" loved to fish and even once in a while caught one. The family spent many happy times in Michigan. He had a great sense of humor, was a great story teller, and loved to play cards. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great joy to him. After the death of his wife, Gordon spent the rest of his days with the second love of his life, Monetta Lloyd. They traveled and had all sorts of adventures together. Her family adopted him as well, so he was blessed by two families that loved him. In addition, he had friends and neighbors, (the Ridenours) that cared about and for him in his later years. He was a member of the Gomer Congregational Church. Services will begin at 11:00 am, Friday, March 2, 2018, at Gomer Congregational Church. Pastor Jim Wilder will officiate, with burial to follow in Vaughnsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gomer Congregational Church or the Welsh Society, 7225 Gomer Road, Gomer, Ohio 45809.
