Rev. George Hoskins Obituary
The Rev. George P. Hoskins, 75, died at 6:48 p.m. Jan. 25, 2012, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born March 13, 1936, in Camden Tenn., to George G. and Clara Lampley Hoskins, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 22, 1956, he married Ilo Myers, who survives in Vaughnsville. The Rev. Mr. Hoskins was a lifelong minister and retired from Philips Co., Ottawa. He was an Air Force veteran, where he received his GED diploma. After his graduation from Christian Union Bible College, Greenfield, he served as pastor at Trial Chapel, Delta; a triad of churches in Point Pleasant; and at Washington Hall and Low Gap in the Marietta area. He was a member of Vaughnsville Christian Union Church, where he serves as an elder, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and as a song leader. He and his wife ministered as St. Rita's Hospice, Lima, for seven years, and operated Hoskins TV and Radio Repair from their home. He enjoyed fishing, singing, playing his guitar, traveling, the Cleveland Browns and the Dallas Cowboys, and his ministry. He was a loving husband and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a son, Jim (Torrie) Hoskins, of Vaughnsville; four daughters, Janice (Mike) Warner, of Cridersville, Lisa Longworth, of Columbus Grove, Becky (Kenny) Dotson, of Vaughnsville, and Virginia (Joel) Bateman, of Lima; eight grandchildren, Shane Neer, Chance Nash, George Michael Hoskins II, Thomas (Sheena) Dotson, Holly (Sean) Brietzke, Bret Bateman, Alisha Bateman and Amy Bateman; and three great-grandchildren, Camden Hoskins and twins, Alexis and Elizabeth Dotson. He was preceded in death by a son, George Michael "Mike" Hoskins I; and a granddaughter, Hope Neer. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastors Rex Roth and Gary Fish will officiate. Burial will be in Vaughnsville Cemetery, with military rites. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
