Columbus Grove, Ohio Gareld L. VanTilbrough, 87, died at 10:13 p.m., on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at St. Rita's Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf, Ohio. He was born on October 12, 1928, in Carey, Ohio, to Willis and Ethel (Hart) VanTilbrough. They both preceded him in death. On June 26, 1954, he married Eileen Utrup, who survives in Columbus Grove, Ohio. He is survived by one son: Kevin VanTilbrough of Columbus Grove; one daughter: Karen (Mike) German of Dublin; three grandchildren: twins, Casey and Corey German and Lisa German. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Ruby (John) Noles and Helen (Walter) Reed and one brother Willis VanTilbrough 4 days old. Gareld attended Columbus Grove High School, after which he served in the U. S. Army, from 1947-1949. Upon returning from military service, he was hired by the AC&Y Railroad. He was the owner and operator of Van's Beauty Shop in Columbus Grove for many years. He also worked for and retired from Philips, formerly of Ottawa. He was a pilot and a flight instructor. He was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Columbus Grove. Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2016, at St. Anthony Church, Columbus Grove, with Rev. Tom Extejt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, where military rites will be presented by the combined Color Guard of the Columbus Grove American Legion and VFW. Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. A Scripture Service will be held at the close of visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Charity of donor's Choice. Online condolences may be express at hartmansonsfuneralhome.com.
