Columbus Grove, Ohio Ethel J. Vaughn, 74, died Sunday, January 6, 2019, at her home in Columbus Grove, Ohio. She was born December 15, 1944, in Lima, to Harold and Vera (Van Meter) Rogers. They both preceded her in death. She was married to Paul V. Vaughn for 48 years, and he survives in Columbus Grove, Ohio. Ethel is also survived by one son, Randy Merritt; three daughters, Sybil Marie Peck, Melissa Renee Lehmen and Samantha Shirley Ann Vaughn; 21 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Roy Rogers and one sister Janice Mayberry. She was preceded in death by a son, Paul V. Vaughn, II. Ethel had attended Columbus Grove Schools. She had been the Chief of Police for 23 years for the Putnam County Village of Ft. Jennings. She attended Columbus Grove United Methodist Church and was a member of the Putnam County Police Chief Association and a life member of the Columbus Grove VFW Auxillary, Post 9648. She had started the H.U.G.S. program for the 3rd grade students at the Ft. Jennings School. Ethel was very active with the Putnam County Explorer Club and the Columbus Grove Boy Scouts. Ethel enjoyed ceramics and collected over 300 bells and angels. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Rich Rakay will officiate with burial to follow at Rockport Cemetery, where honor guard rites will be conducted. Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Cancer Society.
