Dorothy Darbyshire Obituary
Columbus Grove, Ohio Dorothy Lela Darbyshire, a lifelong resident of Columbus Grove, passed away on June 12, 2018. Dorothy would have been 100 years old on her birthday, July 29th. Dorothy was born in Elida, Ohio in 1918 to Glen and Goldie (Himes) Gould. She married her husband, Wendell Lorraine Darbyshire in 1938. She had six children; Donn (deceased), Helen(Doug) Nance, William (Cheryl) Darbyshire, Lynn (Stefanie) Darbyshire, Becky Miller and a devoted adopted son, Eb "Bill" (Jane) Thomas. She was loved by her eighteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She visited family often and enjoyed watching sports throughout life. Dorothy was a prolific reader and an expert at crossword puzzles. She was probably best known for her calm and patient personality. Dorothy was both mom and dad to her children after losing her husband while the children were young. Everyone who knew her felt that she handled that dual role with resolve and devotion, even raising an extra son, Eb Thomas, who, along with his wife Jane, then watched over her all of her life. Dorothy will be fondly remembered for all the lives she touched. Services will begin at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Rich Rakay will officiate with burial to follow in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove. Friends may call from Tuesday, 12:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Columbus Grove Volunteer Fire Department, Columbus Grove EMS or Donor's Choice. Online condolences may be expressed at hartmansonsfuneralhome.com.
