Columbus Grove, Ohio Donald Earl Johnston, Sr., 75, died at 3:15 p.m., on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima, Ohio. He was born on May 17, 1939, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, to Herbert and Elsie (Faulkner) Johnston. They both preceded him in death. On August 9, 1959, he married Shirley Ramsey, who survives in Columbus Grove, Ohio. Mr. Johnston was a graduate of Columbus Grove High School, class of 1957, after which he served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He had retired after 36 years of employment, with Ford Motor Company, Lima Engine Plant. He had been a member of the Cairo Volunteer Fire Department, Ford Motor Company Golf League, Bluffton Golf Club, Hidden Creek Golf Club, Lima Eagles, Aerie #370, Lima Moose, Lodge #199, Columbus Grove VFW, Post 9648, and had been a 4-H advisor. He had attended Cairo United Methodist Church. Don loved to golf, go fishing, and work in his lawn and garden. He is survived by a son: Earl Johnston, Hilliard, Ohio; a daughter: Darlene (Robert Jesko) Schroeder, Columbus Grove, Ohio; five grandchildren: Kyriea (Andrew) Schroeder, Ottawa, Zachariah Johnston, Bowling Green, Gabrielle Schroeder, Columbus Grove, Mackenzie Schroeder, Delaware and Olivia Schroeder, Columbus Grove; brothers and sisters in-law: Ruth Johnston, Perrysburg, Floyd Ramsey, Columbus Grove, Betty (Martin) Schumacher, Vaughnsville, Helen (Frank) Lewis, Elida, and Alice Wiswasser, Columbus Grove. Don was preceded in death by a brother: Ronald Johnston; brothers in-law: Joe Wiswasser and Billy Wiswasser. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, Ohio, Pastor Rich Rakay will officiate. Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, Ohio. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Cairo United Methodist Church.
