Columbus Grove, Ohio Charles A. "Tack" Hammer, age 83, died at 8:03 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Richland Manor, Beaverdam, Ohio. He was born on December 21, 1931, in Ada, Ohio, to H. Ralph and Goldie A. (Harshe) Hammer. They both preceded him in death. On October 3, 1955, he married Ruth Ellen Beck, and she survives. A graduate of Columbus Grove High School, class of 1949. He was a lifelong farmer and owned Hammer Trucking, primarily hauling lime. Charles was a season ticket holder for many years for The Ohio State Basketball and also for Bath Basketball for over 20 years. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan, enjoyed watching sports on TV, and was a member of the Lima Central Dragons Mythical State Championship football team. He had been a pitcher for many of the area softball league teams, playing until he was 60. He had also played half-court recreational basketball at OSU, Lima, until he was 62. Survivors include three sons: Wally (Cindy) Hammer, Tony Hammer, both of Lima and Trent (Jeny) Hammer of Bellefontaine; one daughter: Tobi Ann (Ron) Meyer, Bluffton; 15 grandchildren: Amber (Chad) Sandlin, Jennifer (Elliott) Lewis, Jackie Hammer, Mike Hammer, Ryan (Jessica) Meyer, Cory (Molly) Meyer, Trevor Meyer, Gabe Meyer, Jared Meyer, Lydia Hammer, Gillian Hammer, Cole Hammer, Abby Hammer, Mason Hammer and Rachel Hammer; nine great grandchildren and one sister: Judith Jo Hammer, Lima. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, with Pastor Rich Rakay officiating. Burial will follow in Rockport Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm, on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Hartman Sons Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rockport United Methodist Church.
