Betty L. Basinger, 88, passed away February 5, 2024, at the home in which she was born, located in Columbus Grove, Ohio. Betty was born on September 9, 1935, to Kenneth and Lucille (Weaver) Irwin who preceded her in death. On August 19, 1956 she married David E. Basinger.
Betty is survived by her sister Norma (Pearl) Miller, her son Justin (Sharon) Basinger, her daughter Theresa (Mike Jones) Basinger, her brother Richard Irwin, her grandchildren Jeremy (Angela) Patton, DeAnna (Gabe McKeever) Harris, April (Matt) Frye, Joshua (Amber) Basinger, Zachary (Ashley) Basinger, and Gloria Basinger, along with her great grandchildren Tyler Weber, Devon Weber, Cole Patton, Baylie Patton, Keanu Grable, Hudson Patton, Lillian Patton, Dallas Basinger, William Basinger, Sophie Basinger, Quinten Basinger, and yet to be born Riley Basinger, Lydia Harris, Devin Harris, Hunter Frye, Jade Frye, Sophia Frye, and David Frye. Betty is preceded in death by her husband David Basinger, her daughter Jane Patton, her brothers Paul, Joseph, and Clyde Irwin, her sisters Freda and Virginia Irwin, and Joyce Fuerst, and her grandson Elijah Basinger.
Betty was a homemaker, and after her children graduated from high school, she went back to school, receiving her LPN from Apollo and used her education to work in area nursing homes, and Helping Hand (a home care unit based in Allen county Ohio). Betty loved her family, her faith, her farm and gardening. Betty and her husband, David, enjoyed camping and traveling, once they even went on a 3 month RV adventure across the United States. Traveling wasn’t limited to only pleasure, due to David’s 20 years in the military, they traveled the world and lived in many states and countries. Betty was an avid swimmer and water skier in her day, which was an upgrade from ‘swimming’ in the cow tank as youngsters.
Visitation will be held at Hartman Sons Funeral Home in Columbus Grove on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 4pm until 8pm. Funeral services will be held at Hartman Sons Funeral Home in Columbus Grove on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11am with Pastor Kyle Thain officiating. Burial will follow at Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove, Ohio. Donations can be made to any of the following; Shriners, St. Jude, St John’s Community Church in Columbus Grove, disabled vets, or Boys Town.
