BLUFFTON Byron "Milton" McDowell, 84, formerly of Columbus Grove, died at 11:30 a.m. June 30, 2011, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born June 27, 1927, in Columbus Grove to Byron Lee and Neva McKanna McDowell, who preceded him in death. On July 9, 1948, he married Mary Jane Roberts, who survives. Mr. McDowell retired from Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton/Clark Equipment, Lima, and from Bluffton University, Bluffton. He was a member and elder at Church of the Good Shepherd, Columbus Grove. He was an avid fisherman and a photography enthusiast who enjoyed taking pictures of flowers and nature. He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State University football. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Survivors also include three sons, Michael (Robin) McDowell, of Bluffton, Dean (special partner Bob Montooth) McDowell, of Palm Springs, Calif., and Shawn McDowell, of Baltimore; a sister, Wanda E. McDowell, of Columbus; and two stepgrandchildren and a stepgreat-grandchild. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Good Shepherd, Columbus Grove. Pastor Michael Whitman and Pastor James Mason will officiate. Burial will be in Osborn Cemetery, Columbus Grove, with military rites. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Good Shepherd, Putnam County Hospice or Mennonite Memorial Home. Arrangements are by Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove
