B. JoAnn Rode, 84, formerly of Vaughnsville, died at 10:42 p.m. March 17, 2011, at home.She was born Feb. 9, 1927, in Vaughnsville to Clifford and Cora Barto Hughes, who preceded her in death.On April 28, 1946, she married Walter J. Rode. He died Nov. 4, 2001.Mrs. Rode was a homemaker. She had been a member of the Vaughnsville United Methodist Church and Immanuel United Methodist Church, Elida, and was a member of her son's church, Perrysburg First United Church.She retired in 1987 from Philips ECG, Ottawa. She was a graduate of Vaughnsville High School class of 1945. She especially loved to spend time with her family and working crossword puzzles.Survivors include a son, Gary (Claudia) Rode, of Perrysburg; a brother, Donald (Alice) Hughes, of Vaughnsville; five grandchildren, Robert (Dawn) Rode, of Doylestown, Pa., Philip (Stephanie) Rode, of Columbus, Beth Ann (David) Maurer, of West Liberty, and Joel and Micah Rode, both of Perrysburg; and seven great grandchildren, Ethan, Caleb, Jonathan and Audrey Rode, and Elam, Magdalene and Josiah Maurer.She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney J. Rode; two sisters, Mary L. Baringer and Bettie Brinkman; and a brother, Vernon Hughes.Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Vaughnsville United Methodist Church. The Revs. Dr. David Chivington and Thomas Brown will officiate.Burial will be in Vaughnsville Cemetery.Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Kidney Fund.
