Arthur "Art" George Schramm's Obituary
Arthur "Art" Schramm Obituary
Lima, Ohio Arthur "Art" George Schramm, age 82, peacefully journeyed home to our Lord at 4:35 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Vancrest Health Center in Delphos, Ohio. He was born on February 27, 1933 in Fort Jennings, to the late William J. and Agnes M. (Dickman) Schramm. He had been married to Gladys (Schumaker) Reese, who survives in Elida. Before retirement he was owner/operator of Art Schramm Construction in Columbus Grove. He was a skilled carpenter, but for those who knew him best, he was a "jack of all trades." He had worked at Ford Lima Engine Plant and for the Lima Pipefitters Union at Sohio Refinery. He was a life member of the Columbus Grove Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #2772. Art loved old country songs and mastered most musical instruments. He was asked to play the piano at local clubs and family gatherings, where people really enjoyed his style of playing. He also enjoyed singing and playing his mandolin or guitar for his children when they were young. He was a kind and caring, gentle soul and was friendly with everyone he met. He loved "God's little angels "(children) and "God's little creatures." He enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels. He really enjoyed the simple things in life: going to the Kewpee for coffee, a drive in the country or a building project with Gloria. He loved family gatherings and seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He prayed for all of his family and anyone ill or in need of prayer. He prayed for peace in the world. Art is survived by three sons: George (Kathy) Schramm of Columbus Grove, Steve (Nancy) Schramm of Columbus Grove and Chuck Schramm of Lima; four daughters: Gloria Miller of Columbus Grove, Sandra Devoe of Rockford, Illinois, Brenda (Gary) Steiner of Bluffton and Mary Lynne (Bob) Dawson of Lima; a daughter in-law: Kimberly Schramm of Texas; seventeen grandchildren: Ericka, Curtis, Michael, Christina, Victoria, Claudia, Autumn, Evan, Cori, Allison, Jani, Jorgi, Annie, Danielle, Leandra, Audria and Deidra; eight great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; three sisters: Ruth (Fred) Cavelage of Delphos, Patricia (Oliver) Lugibihl of Bluffton and Joan Higbea of Florida; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son Gregory P. Schramm; a son in-law Terry O. Miller; a daughter in-law Nancy (McCafferty) Schramm; five brothers: Henry, Ralph, Alfred, Bill and Paul Schramm; and a sister Betty Bonifas. Services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings, Ohio, where visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Rev. Tom Extejt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday, November 13, 2015, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, Ohio, where a Rosary service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m..
