Columbus Grove, Ohio Alvin L. Schumacher, 92, went home to be with the Lord, at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at his home near Vaughnsville, surrounded by his family. He was born January 7, 1925, near Vaughnsville, to Joseph and Veronica (Martin) Schumacher. They both preceded him in death. On August 28, 1948, he married Bonnie Myers, she survives near Vaughnsville. He is also survived by a son: Joe (Linda) Schumacher of Columbus Grove; three daughters: Susan (Dave) Kruse of Lexington, Ohio, Deb (Geoff) Stafford of Worthington, Ohio and Jill (Mike) Bowers of Columbus Grove; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren with one on the way and a brother: Martin (Betty) Schumacher of Vaughnsville. Alvin was preceded in death by three brothers: Gilbert, Norbert , and Vincent Schumacher and four sisters: Alberta Goudy, Salome "Sally" Ladden, Donelda Smith and Margaret Smith. He was a graduate of Vaughnsville High School, class of 1944. Alvin was a U. S. Army veteran, serving during WWII. He was a member of the Vaughnsville Community Church, where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Sugar Creek Farm Bureau and VFW Post 9648, Columbus Grove. Alvin had worked for 32 years at Textron, Lima and was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors. He restored a Minneapolis Moline that he owned, two Oliver tractors for his son in-law, Mike Bowers, and at age 89 he restored his nephew, Jeff Schumacher's Model A pick-up truck. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 21, 2017, at Vaughnsville Community Church, with Pastor Tom Brown officiating. Military Rites will be conducted following the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date at Vaughnsville Cemetery. Friend may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vaughnsville Community Church. Online condolences may be expressed at hartmansonsfuneralhome.
