Alice Ehrhardt Obituary
COLUMBUS GROVE — Alice Ruth Ehrhardt, 79, died at 8:55 p.m. Sept. 8, 2012, at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa. She was born Feb. 17, 1933, in Columbus Grove to Gerald “Ike” and Irene Wiechert Tussing Reese, who preceded her in death. She married Earl Ehrhardt, who survives in Lima. Mrs. Ehrhardt attended Columbus Grove schools. She was a member of Columbus Grove Christian Church and was a life member of the Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Columbus Grove. Always a homemaker, she enjoyed playing cards, sewing and caring for people. In addition to being a care provider, she was a cook. She and her brother, Paul, operated a restaurant in Columbus Grove, after which she enjoyed cooking at various other local eateries. Perhaps her most unusual job as a cook involved cooking in a railroad car. This car was part of a work train. The crew on board installed communication poles and lines of the Nickel Plate Railroad. Her official title with the railroad was a Communications Department Cook. She was the last ever such cook for the Nickel Plate. Survivors include seven daughters, Karen Gillette, Kathy (David) Radabaugh, Rhonda Ehrhardt, Mary Ehrhardt and Tracey Ehrhardt, all of Columbus Grove, and Karla (Mike) Doseck and Kimberly (Dan) Ott, both of Botkins; and 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jake Ehrhardt; and three brothers, Paul D., John G. “Jack” and James A. “Jim” Tussing. Services will begin at noon Wednesday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Dave Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Truro Cemetery, Columbus Grove. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
